Ensuring Genuine Products, Performance, and Customer Safety
Kuraray Co., Ltd. is a globally representative enterprise in the development, manufacture, and supply of resins, chemicals, and fiber products. Kuraray Co., Ltd. has identified that certain manufacturers in China have engaged in activities that infringe upon its intellectual property (IP) rights, including the production and sale of unauthorized ionomer interlayer products. These IP rights, encompassing patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other proprietary assets, are central to Kuraray Co., Ltd.’s business, and the company takes all instances of infringement very seriously.
In 2025, Kuraray (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “KURARAY”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kawahara) in China, filed a lawsuit in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China against Dongguan Qunan Plastics Industrial Co., Ltd. for infringing KURARAY’s intellectual property rights and engaging in unfair competition.
In January 2026, KURARAY prevailed in the first-instance judgment.
In May 2026, the Intermediate People’s Court of Dongguan City rendered its final judgment, finding that Dongguan Qunan Plastics Industrial Co., Ltd. had infringed KURARAY’s intellectual property rights and ordering compensation for damages.
KURARAY will continue to protect its intellectual property rights and to take appropriate measures against suspected infringement and unfair competition in accordance with applicable law.
The legal actions taken against Qun’an are part of KURARAY’s overall intellectual property protection initiatives in China. KURARAY will continue to strengthen its IP rights protection in China and actively carry out various rights-protection efforts, taking action against suspected infringing acts in accordance with applicable law, with the aim of helping customers continue to rely on genuine products.
