Digging, hammering and painting for preschool children and homeless animals in Troisdorf

TROSIFOL takes part in the Malteser Hilfsdienst Social Day for the first time

On 21 September, a total of 16 helpers of special film manufacturer TROSIFOL are taking part in the Malteser Hilfsdienst Social Day for the first time at the local preschool and animal home in Troisdorf. The employees of the TROSIFOL brand belonging to the Japanese Kuraray Group will be rolling up their sleeves in the aid of a good cause. Armed with shovels, wheelbarrows, hammers and paint brushes, the helpers are refurbishing the play areas for local infants and creating weatherproof shelters for our four-legged friends.

At the preschool, the old sand by the climbing frames and swings urgently needs to be replaced with new sand. And at the animal home, TROSIFOL will have a large hand in insulating, painting and waterproofing the dog kennels. They will also be handing over donations in kind that all Kuraray staff have collected in the last few weeks. Imke Arracher of the personnel department has organised the collection and is in charge of the project at the animal home. "We're delighted at the energetic support from our staff. We're also grateful to the 'Fressnapf' pet supplies store in Bonn-Pützchen, which has also made a donation. We have received so many donations in kind that we need two cars to transport everything to the home."

Why is Kuraray participating in the Social Day? With a total of 46 participants (16 in Troisdorf near Cologne and 30 in Frankfurt), Kuraray Europe GmbH will be taking part in the Social Day for the first time. At Kuraray, responsibility towards society has high priority and is firmly anchored in its DNA. According to its global corporate mission, it contributes to human well-being with our products and services. It wants not only to be economically successful, but also to embrace its social responsibility and help people.
In Frankfurt, its staff will be at work at the Freiligrathschule in Frankfurt-Fechenheim. Under the motto of "More sport, games & fun at our preschool", they will help to erect children's play equipment and to spruce up the library and the preschool garden.

"We're very happy that Kuraray Europe GmbH has agreed to give their staff time off to contribute to community spirit in our town," says Ulla Klocke, who, as the Social Day coordinator, runs operations on behalf of the Malteser Hilfsdienst aid service. Such support is urgently needed. "We lack the necessary funding and manpower to replace the sand in our children's sandpit. We're grateful for the opportunity for industry and social services to team up on the Malteser Hilfsdienst Social Day," says Melanie Andreas, preschool deputy headmistress.

"For us at the aid service, it is important that business and society meet. All the feedback of the last few years confirms that the employees, children and the elderly benefit from this encounter on Social Day," adds Ulla Klocke. It is understandable, then, that the number of participating companies has been growing from year to year. Throughout Germany, 1,300 employees in 20 towns are taking part in this year's Social Day.

We warmly invite you to drop in on the Social Day activities on Friday, 21 September 2012, from 10 am to 3 pm at the preschool (Evangelischer Kindergarten, Viktoriastrasse 2, 53840 Troisdorf) and the animal home (Tierheim, Siebengebirgsallee 105, 53840 Troisdorf).
